Abstract
Duodenal carcinoid is a rare neuroendocrine tumor. Laparoscopic duodenal surgery is difficult, because of its anatomical location. We report a case of duodenal carcinoid in a 71-year-old man who was treated with laparoscopic resection. The tumor was 1?1 cm in size and showed submucosal involvement on CT and endoscopic examination. There was no evidence of metastasis to the liver and regional lymph nodes on image study. After laparoscopic exposure of the anterior wall of the duodenum, the mass was lifted under direct endoscopic localization. Excision of the duodenal wall around the tumor was performed using endoscopic scissors and electrocautery. Excised defect was closed by a manual interrupted suture with suture loop, then omentopexy was made. The operating time was 44 minute. The patient was discharged on postoperative day 4. There was no perioperative complication. Laparoscopic resection of small carcinoid tumor in the duodenum is safe and feasible. It may be utilized for other diseases of the duodenum.
